The following classes are offered to help
children learn the Art of Communication:
Improvisational Acting Technique: "The
teaching of Improvisational Acting Technique has become a well-known
process that has enhanced the educational experience for students
and teachers alike. By teaching students improvisational Techniques-
physical, visual, and auditory- self-awareness becomes more acute
along with a general increase in awareness of the feelings, ideas,
and needs of other people. This group-awareness translates into
modified behavior, increased self-esteem for individuals, and an
understanding of basic rules of common courtesy"*
Beginning Acting I
In this Improvisational Theatre Games Class children
will engage in basic acting games and techniques that will enhance
their communication skills and relational skills. They will learn to
be more aware of people around them by developing self-awareness in
a group process. Group awareness is vital in developing community
values in a positive manner. The games are fun, challenging and easy
to understand. "The children will work in teams and individually to
accomplish a number of tasks dealing with Intellectual, Emotional,
and Physical communication. This whole-body approach to teaching
communication has proven to be effective in a variety of populations
including mainstream children and adults, at-risk Youth, and
Autistic children"*.
Beginning Acting II
In this class students will advance to more complex
tasks of improvisation. They study character as it relates to people
in their everyday lives; specifically, they begin to interpret other
peoples' physical, emotional and vocal cues on the way to developing
an understanding of other peoples' feelings and ideas. Groups at
this level rehearse and perform a play with a more complex plot and
characters with more complex motivations.
